A Search Engine Optimization (SEO) / Search Engine Marketing (SEM) Specialist is a website professional who works to increase a website's visibility on Internet search engines. The role is responsible for analyzing, reviewing, directing change and making changes to websites so they are optimized for search engines and identifies proper keywords for SEO implementation. The role develops and implements effective search engine optimization strategies and paid search engine advertising campaigns to increase targeted website traffic, as well as apply industry-standard SEO and paid search engine advertising techniques; this includes championing search engine marketing, address natural SEO as well as assist with the management of paid search engine advertising campaigns.

Responsibilities

  • Determine SEO strategies; launch, manage, and report on paid search engine advertising campaigns
  • Work with strategy, content, design, and technology teams to implement SEO strategies and ensure sites are search engine friendly
  • Monitor and analyse effectiveness of SEO and paid search engine advertising strategies post-launch and provide recommendations for improvement
  • Meet strict deadlines to meet client expectations
  • Stay on top of current and future search engine trends to develop and improve SEO and paid search engine advertising practices within the agency
  • Work closely with paid search engine advertising campaigns to ensure search campaign effectiveness for both paid and SEO

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree of any course with at least 3-5 years’ of experience with natural search engine optimization and paid search engine advertising
  • Google Certification is a plus
  • Proven “white hat” SEO techniques with other websites
  • Thorough understanding of page and site optimization
  • Experience working with pay-for-performance search products such as Google AdWords, and other relevant search engine advertising tools
  • Knowledge of advanced link-building tactics
  • Experience with analysis of reporting through Web analytics programs (WebSideStory, Omniture, Webtrends, Google Analytics and webmaster tools)
  • Solid understanding of Web development technologies as they relate to SEO (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, AJAX, Flash, content management systems, etc.)
  • Excellent understanding for setting up event tracking and conversion tracking in Google Analytics
