A Student Counselor serves a critical advising and support role for student success for a fully-online global university. They are students' primary source of information about academic program operation, and about the policies and procedures of the university. Student Counselor counsels their assigned students in understanding expectations and overcoming obstacles to ensure success. They are responsible for providing highly engaged, student centred support to a caseload of undergraduate or graduate students.
Responsibilities
Build student relationships and provide mentoring to help them remain engaged and successfully completing their education programs
Provide direct, comprehensive program guidance to assigned students
Monitor students' general progress according to university policies
Maintain regular communication with students according to university protocol
Track student participation to meet benchmark goals throughout each term
Assist students in their educational planning and progress from initial enrolment to graduation.
Communicate with each student weekly on a personalized basis; intervene as necessary to assist those students having difficulty, and complete required University reports on their academic status.
Provide exceptional customer service by responding to emails and phone calls within set deadlines with resolution of all service needs within set deadlines
Serve as the student’s advocate in resolving matters of difficulty, misunderstanding or confusion.
Qualifications
Must be a Bachelor’s degree holder, preferably Psychology or Education
Minimum of four (4) years related professional experience with direct customer service role;
Teaching background is a definite advantage
Must be well versed in Microsoft Outlook Suite Products, specifically Outlook Calendar
Must have strong decision-making and organizational skills
Fluent use of online programs, tracking, communication technology
With Excellent command in written and spoken English and polished presentation style
Willing to work on shifting schedule to support global students
Willing to work on 9PM - 6AMor 10PM - 7AM shift
Willing to work on early morning or mid shift
